I completed the Dyer 6 hour challenge yesterday, 11 laps & 65+ miles of chasing friends through the woods, and up & down an old landfill. The course was tough. It started with a flat-out TT effort on fire roads, then transitioned into unfamiliar technical singletrack that was run backwards from the normal direction (that I knew anyway). Then you have “the hill”: 10-15 minutes of intervals on a 2 mile circuit up and down an old landfill. The course had a little of something for everyone, and you could see your relative position throughout the day especially on the hill.
I knew it was going to be a long day so I tried to pace myself for the duration. With Freddy in front of me and me trying to close the gap, it felt a lot like our training rides together. I was able to get the gap down to 3 minutes at about the 4 hour mark, but he finished strong, opening that up to 8 minutes by the finish.
I was able to get 11 laps in but due to the time cutoff Freddy had to do an extra lap to make sure I didn’t pass him in the end, so at least I made him work for it. 2nd overall, great day suffering with friends for a great organization. Thanks to Tom @ Bicyclery and Gerry @ FORCE, who put this event on as a fund raiser for Jack the Bike Man who does awesome things for our community through bicycle education and programs. If you haven’t read his story, check it out, it’s pretty dang moving.
Jemma took a bunch more photos, check them out here!

That must have been a pretty tough sack race with everyone wearing crash helmets. Looks like it was a lot of fun!
